The SR 1 Super sounds uncompressed and lively. The reason for this is that we have been fighting low efficiency for many years. Ole Klifoth has been known to claim that every new model will increase 1 dB in efficiency! Although it would be great, this is not possible without compromising sound quality, which, of course, will never be the case.
THE NEVER ENDING STRUGGLE
The struggle against low efficiency is very important, because the worst enemy of both real life dynamics and the ability to play softly yet open and detailed is – yes – low efficiency.
The SR 1 Super has enjoyed many great reviews. You can read more about this in Reviews
The bass driver of the SR 1 Super uses a titanium voice coil former. It is stronger than other materials, has lower distortion and faster reaction time. More expensive, yes, but worth every extra penny.
The SR 1 Signature is a powerful and well balanced speaker. It is based on the same enclosure as all SR 1 models, but in this version it uses a heavy rear baffle that absorbs vibration from the cabinet.
A lot of research went into the mechanics of this speaker: Cabinet/ driver interaction, the sandwich technology used for laminating the cabinet with front – and rear baffles, curved sides, which are much stronger and vibration resistant than straight sides.
The SR 1 Signature uses a long-throw bass midrange driver with the same fine membrane technology as the SR 3 Avantgarde Arreté and the same Titanium voice coil technology, too.
The combination with the Audiovector Evotech tweter, the fastest and most delicate soft dome tweeter existing, results in a very well balanced and dynamic speaker. This Signature model leaves nothing to be desired, as long as you do not compare it with its bigger siblings.
When the Avantgarde was first designed, it was based on a Signature model. The possibility of using an Air Motion Transformer in a totally new guise was no less than a revolution: One driver with a range from 2900 Hz to over 50.000 Hz!
NOT A RIBBON TWEETER BUT AN AIR MOTION TRANSFORMER
This was a dream come true. Instead of using a supertweeter with all the phase problems this causes, Ole Klifoth and his team could go all the way with one single driver. However, new research into the speed of a new midrange driver and cross-over was necessary to obtain a seamless transition from midrange to tweeter.
WE HAD TO INVENT A MIDRANGE TO MATCH
A new midrange with an unfiltered response up to 10.000 Hz was designed. With Audiovector’s own Air Motion Transformer, the Avantgarde tweeter – totally no- compression and used in a 30% rear firing SEC configuration – the pair form a very fast, very transparent, electrostatic like (but much more dynamic ) reproduction, which makes the best of every kind of music you present it to.
The Arreté models are to Audiovector what AMG is to Mercedes, RS to Audi and M to BMW: Highly specialized and tuned versions of a great product.
Arreté is an old Greek symbol, which means: Being able to perform everything to the highest standards. This model is based on the
SR 1 Avantgarde, which was the original top model in the SR 1 range. In itself a fantastic speaker, this models inspired keen listeners to ask: Is it possible to improve the performance even further?
A TECHNICAL TOUR DE FORCE
Ole Klifoth rose to the challenge and went on a tour de force through virtually all aspects of optimization in the fields of drivers and cross-overs, driver/cabinet interaction, speaker-floor interaction, cryogenic treatment – and much more. A couple of years later, the Si 1 Avantgarde Arreté was born.
